The Yucca filamentosa is a beautiful fully hardy Yucca species that you can often find in Dutch gardens. They produce beautiful white flowers shaped like a white hanging bell. It flowers for a long time and therefore keeps its blooms longer than other Yuccas. Normally, the colors of the leaves change in winter, but the leaves of this Yucca remain green. They hold onto this color during the winter months. It can withstand temperatures down to -30 degrees Celsius, making it very suitable for our Dutch climate.

The Yucca filamentosa is a slow grower. That is why even the smaller sizes are quite expensive. If you are looking for a plant that does not get too large, then the Yucca filamentosa is a good choice.
How do I plant a Yucca filamentosa?
Planting a Yucca is not much different from planting another plant. Try to keep the root ball as intact as possible. Ensure that the root ball is surrounded by good nutrient soil. We recommend Florentus Mediterranean potting soil for this purpose. Make a hole in the ground or potting soil deep enough for the root ball. Press the soil firmly around the root ball and fill in until there is no trench left around the root ball.
How do I grow a Filamentosa from seed?
A Yucca is best sown in a warmed environment. This increases the chances of success. Fill a container with sowing and cutting soil; cactus soil is also possible, and place the seeds on the soil. You can sprinkle some grid or sand over them until the seeds are just covered. Watering should be done very carefully, as the seeds may wash away. It is best to mist them until they are lightly moist. Place them in a warm spot between 20-25°C. Sprouting can take months!
Our plant sizes are determined by measuring the smallest plants up until the largest in a field with hundreds of plants. Because a plant is a natural product, it's possible a plant is a little smaller than the mentioned minimum size.
This deviation is 10cm maximum. In our guidelines we keep a margin of max. 10cm regarding the minimum size.
Note: when you order a plant that doesn't stay green in the winter, it's probably (when ordered during the winter months or the beginning spring season) smaller than the minimum size. This is not a problem in any case, because the plant will grow new branches or leaves and the minimum height will be reached within a short period. Your order will have the right size within a short time.
Special transport is required for larger/heavier plants or objects. This transport costs 29,95 (free for orders above 300). The benefit of this transport is that more products can be selected without getting additional transport costs. The delivery time of this transport type usually is within 1 workday. Howiever, it can take 1 or more days in some cases. If you're not at home when the driver arrives, the order will be placed in front of your door.
