Red Currant Bush

The red currant bush is very well-known in the Netherlands and produces delicious (slightly sour) red fruits rich in Vitamin C.

It is truly a beautiful bush with delightful berries that it bears around August.

This bush can be placed almost anywhere, but it does enjoy a nice sunny spot.

Watering

This plant needs to be watered regularly.

Cutting

Prune the plant in the spring so that the berries receive enough light and space to ripen. Especially free-standing bushes need to be pruned well. The fruits grow on one-year-old wood and on short fruiting wood on the framework branches. The one-year-old branches produce the best fruits, so it is important to ensure there is enough young wood. This can be achieved by adequately thinning out and removing older fruiting wood.

We always recommend to immediately repot a purchased plant into a larger sized pot, because the pots sold are usually completely rooted. It allows the plant to root more, grow more and it's better for keeping the soil moist.

Most often the plant is around the minimum size. The height of the plant is always incl. pot height. Its actual height depends on the various sources of supply and how long the plant has been staying and growing in our stock environment.
